National Theatre Techniques

Chair duets: Start sitting forward whilst one person takes responsibility for placing their hands on or moving their partners then reherse and get the hang on what you are doing. The second person now takes over for between two and four moves then reherse what your doing gaain until the second part is memorised. That is how they create a string of materiel, keep on rehersing until moves are smooth and slick, you can also bring in other people like transitions if wanted, what they want is the chair duet to be creative and use your imagination. What to avoid is symmetry, if you find your self mirroring your partners movements break the pattern, Make sure your hands dont float in the air on your partners left, and do not add to the story just keep it simple and let it happen.

Push hands: One example of oush hands is learning to fly, one of the examples shown by The curious incident of the dog in the night time they use this to show how Christpoher is feeling in some of the circumstances he is in. Building blocks break down complex actions to make them more simple, its also a communication through touch and it is used to show relationships with the other characters

Lifts: This technquite focues on creating an illusion of weighlessness through trust excersises, communication through touch, just like push hands the partners have to guide eachother physically and to send and recieve signals.
